My fee is usually per project, and depends on the project’s length, timeline, and level of editing required. Articles, essays, and papers usually range from $250-$750. Book-length works usually range from $1,500-$3,000.
To get a more precise estimate, first, we would arrange a free consultation in person or via Skype to discuss your work, expectations, process, and fee range. I also ask clients send me a sample of the project, if available, so we can discuss it during the meeting. (I will never share or distribute your material; if you choose not to hire me after our meeting, I delete any and all materials shared.)
The fee includes a certain number of optional meetings (depending on the project’s size and scope) either in person (locally) or via Skype to discuss your edits and revision plan. Additionally, services include up to two editing passes: I will edit, then send manuscript to the author for approval. The author will either accept or reject changes and answer any of the editor’s queries, and then return the manuscript to the editor, who will incorporate those changes or corrections into the manuscript and clean the copy of editorial markings.
The different levels of editing I provide are:
- Copyediting, for grammar, usage, spelling, punctuation.
- Stylistic editing, to clarify meaning, eliminate jargon, and polish language; it also includes line-by-line editing for smoothness and clarity while maintaining author’s voice and style.
- Style guide and footnotes/endnotes cross-checking, for double-checking and formatting publisher style requirements, accurately attributing sources listed, and more.
Please note: I currently do not offer indexing services.
I can make a recommendation after our consultation, but you can choose the service(s) that based on your needs. After that, I’d send you a contract with our agreed-upon timeline, down payment, and other important details.
